'Seven bays for seven days'
The Breaks
Only the main (known) breaks are outlined
since, as we all know, discovery is half the fun! So starting at
the South;
Porthcothan:
A low tide beach break, generally uncrowded and occasionally offers up
a few surprises. Less power than some of the better known breaks
but still good and ideal if you're just starting out. Beware of
the occasional strong rips. Guarded during the Summer season. .jpg)
Treyarnon Bay:
Some say home to surfing
in Britain. Misses a little more swell than its neighbouring
Constantine but the lefthanders on the reef at low tide can be epic when
all the elements come together. The middle of the beach at higher
tides is a great place for less experienced surfers. Beware of the
everpresent rip at the South side of the bay. Guarded throughout
the season.
Constantine Bay:
Home to the reef, a peak and a pointbreak (on those rare occasions).
All the breaks work through the tides except at high tide unless it's
bigger (4 feet +). Needs a light South Easterly to really become
epic and can be quite fickle but it is never gutless. Can be unnerving
and does break boards but also can be perfect! Serious
rip between the reef and the central peak and often longshore rips. Picks
up any swell in the Atlantic so can get busy when everywhere else is flat
but if you bring lots of understanding and respect the locals then
all will be well. Guarded through the season but is often red
flagged, when you enter at your own risk.

Boobys Bay:
A long walk whichever route you take and don't be tempted to park on the Golf
Club track. Whereas they used to be understanding, a handful have
made it difficult for everyone and you will be clamped/towed. A
beautiful place which, rightly, is sensitively protected by
the locals. Bring a smile and leave no rubbish and you could be
rewarded by one of the best beachbreak peaks around. Bring an attitude
and a crowd and a miserable time will be had by all. Guarded through
the season but is often red flagged.

Mother Iveys:
Secret bodyboarding spot (????), so you'll have to discover that one yourself
(or follow the crowds).
Harlyn:
Our sanctuary when conditions are big and stormy. Offshore
in a South Westerly and sheltered by the headland. Unfortunately
it does close out - a lot. And it can get busy. But it
can also be epic when everywhere else on the coast is totally
blown out. Closes out more intensely at low tide and backs off at
high. A relatively safe beach which is home to the Harlyn Surf Rescue
Club and is guarded throughout the season.
Trevone Bay:
Be nice to the local surfers if you visit here. Can be
fickle but can produce a barrelling left hander under the right conditions.
Serious rip at the Northern side of the beach. Guarded throughout
the season.
