We hope to be able to report on the actual surf conditions each or most mornings and try to predict the next day's conditions. If we don't then the conditions are that bad (or good?).

Well that is amongst the most beautiful dawns that I've ever seen, bursting over yet another stunningly gorgeous morning!
There's a light dusting  of frost icing those fields and dunes, while a gentle mist is trapped by the hedgerows and hillocks all under the bluest of blue skies.
Shame about the surf though.  It's pretty much flat.  Glassy and misty but barely a foot and just crashing ashore.
I think that I'll have a look this afternoon, it's such a nice day that it would be good to even get a plank out there but I'm not expecting there to be anything worthwhile.

It's pretty much the same around here this morning, stunningly beautiful but as flat as a tack.

Our scale for measuring conditions is the universal one; 1ft (barely rideable - your choice), 2-3ft (hip to shoulder height when trimming across the wave), 3-4ft (head high and great), 4-5ft (that little bit bigger), 6ft (very rare - well overhead), 8ft (rarely gets bigger in this country but has been known), 10ft (very rarely rideable in this country only a few breaks can hold this size). 12ft + (get yer jet ski, yer big wave gun, kiss yer family and friends good-bye and head for the hills - but I've never seen it this big and rideable in this country).

Surf Forecast for Tuesday 15th March 2010

If you have the time then today is the day when you probably want to spend that time in the water.  But it is going to be a bit of a battle.

The day should start with light offshores but they are likely to strengthen through the morning, yes, just as that swell builds.  But, at some stage as the tide helps that new swell, the wind is likely to veer to the south.  Maybe stopping at a southerly (side shore) point, maybe carrying on to south westerly (onshore).  So, it's all going to be about timing today!

Surf Conditions for the Start of the Week

The week ahead looks set to frustrate at the start.  Light wind conditions through Monday are unlikely to help the flat conditions.  We should see a little start to a new swell by Tuesday and, with the wind likely to swing south and then maybe south easterly (if only for a little while) there may just be some nice and clean little surf for a moment, probably on the afternoon's incoming tide.    After that the wind is likely to continue veering until it settles into its more usual south westerly direction, maybe by midweek.  That will help the building swell and indicates a possible Harlyn week ahead of us.  Do you remember Harlyn?  It has been a while hasn't it.
Anyway, i think that we're in for a more typical mid - March week with lumpy swells being blown at us by strengthening sou 'westers.  Warmer but damper and with less sunshine.  That'll be fun for all those returning barrel weary globe hopping surf-travellers.  It seems like most are back this week sometime.  Have a good week wherever you are going, or have been!
