We hope to be able to report on the actual surf conditions each or most mornings and try to predict the next day's conditions. If we don't then the conditions are that bad (or good?).

Low Tide:

High Tide:

Ah, it's a little cloudier this morning.
But it is still offshore and and it is still lined up.  A solid three feet, easily four on sets, oh and that sun should be back to brighten things up by this afternoon.
And that will be a welcome sight, you can really feel the bite in this north easterly wind.  And how cold is that sea?  6.7 deg C apparently.  But the surf is barreling onto all the breaks with long walls peeling off.  Lovely.

Nah.  Write it off.  The north easterly wind which is so kind to all the other breaks is just trashing it here this morning.

Our scale for measuring conditions is the universal one; 1ft (barely rideable - your choice), 2-3ft (hip to shoulder height when trimming across the wave), 3-4ft (head high and great), 4-5ft (that little bit bigger), 6ft (very rare - well overhead), 8ft (rarely gets bigger in this country but has been known), 10ft (very rarely rideable in this country only a few breaks can hold this size). 12ft + (get yer jet ski, yer big wave gun, kiss yer family and friends good-bye and head for the hills - but I've never seen it this big and rideable in this country).

Surf Forecast for Thursday 11th March 2010

A day of two halves I think.  The morning should see a continuation of steady, lined up swell lines being handsomely groomed by those chill offshores but the wind is likely to gradually switch to onshore north westerlies as we go into the afternoon.  Still as chilly but without the wave sculpting effects.  Still, we should see plenty of sunshine again too.

Surf Conditions for the Rest of the Week

Thursday.

Make the most of it till Thursday.
That wind is likely to go around to a more northerly direction sometime during Thursday afternoon or evening  The good news is that that wind is likely to drop away to no more than a gentle breeze.  The bad news?  So is the swell.  There should be decent three to four foot ones rolling in right through the end of the week and only gradually dropping over the weekend but, compared to what we've been enjoying this last while, it may be a little disappointing.
Have a great week, whatever you're doing!
