It’s a dark and dull, threatening kind of morning, the gloom of a closing storm lurking just over there.
Right now it’s all mild and still, a breathless morning of heavy overcastness. But give it just a moment or two and that will change!   By this afternoon we will be seeing a freshening south westerly wind starting to rattle the hedgerows while those dark clouds which are presently just over there will empty their wetness right over here!
The surf should build though!
The one foot or occasionally two of weak and wishy washy little waves that are dribbling through right now should soon increase in size, a couple to three feet expected by lunchtime, twice that by this evening.
Harlyn could do with a wash out and that is probably what is going to happen over the next few days!

Tiny little ripples are sloshing against the sand here this morning, that pre-storm stillness heavy with the threat of a mighty downpour.
Right now it is dark and gloomy and the surf is flat here but give it a few hours and it will be a very different view.
We should be surfing here by this evening.
Maybe.

Surf Forecast for Tuesday 2nd August 2016

Strong south westerly winds will be pushing a four to five foot swell onto our craggy and jagged coastline by dawn, our main surf breaks all blown out and messy.
The sheltered spots will be our surf destinations of choice today, Harlyn being the magnet locally.
We should be surfing a more wintery and very blowey four feet or so of churning Harlyn barrels all day long!

Surf Conditions for the Start of the Week

A little depression is set to glide in and over us at the start of this week, bringing freshening south westerly winds, as well as some ‘mixed’ summer weather!
Those winds should push up some waves and blow them onto our local surf breaks, making for really choppy conditions at our favourite spots but maybe getting enough waves rolling around and into the sheltered spots like Harlyn.
Those waves are going to more of the locally produced and weaker kind than we would prefer from those long range swells but at this time of year, we’ll take what comes our way!
So we should have a choice between surfing bigger but very choppy main break locations or really small but crisp and clean Harlyn as the week starts out.
By the end of the week though, just as the weather settles, that wind is likely to back round to the north west again and that is onshore everywhere.
Still, theres plenty of time for that to change yet!
Have a great week, wherever you are and whatever you do!
