IN FLANDERS FIELDS

In Flanders’ fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders’ fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high,
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders’ Fields.

And on the wind blows!
That same chilling nor’ wester is howling down the coast this morning, shoving bundles of clouds aside as it topples shrubs, snake-shakes the marram and hulas the hedgerows.
The surf is a mess. Five or six feet of broken and chopped, wild storm surf is shuffling around the bay, not even big enough to excite.
No, it’s a cold and windy one with a good chance of a downpour or two to emerge out of that brightening sky. Better to snuggle up close to a loved one this morning, unless you’re thinking of the south coast?

Three to four feet of madly chopped storm surf is being washed into the bay this morning with no shape or direction to it.
It looks dark and cold and shapeless and uninviting.
But apart from that!…..
So, another south coast day beckons.

Surf Forecast for Monday 13th November 2017

The wind should finally ease up to start this week.
We will continue to enjoy a northerly but only a breeze to start the day. Still onshore, still cold but much calmer and more relaxing.
We might even find ourselves some small surf that might be worth riding, tucked away behind those north wind protecting points and headlands. It is probably only going to be a couple of fete or so but a bit of sunshine and calmer winds might just make it more inviting!

Surf Conditions for the Start of the Week

Hopefully we have lost those wild north westerly storms to start this week.
Monday should see some calm and pleasant conditions, still with a cold northerly breeze but brighter and calmer and generally easier.
A couple of feet or so of still slopped but much calmer surf might just appeal if you find just the right spot tucked away from that northerly breeze at just the right stage of the tide.
By Tuesday the wind is likely to be gusting in from the west south west, a milder direction and more supportive of those thicker if no bigger swells.
By midweek we are likely to be seeing some fairly typical late autumn, overcast weather with that three foot swell rolling in to the main surf breaks, all a bit sloppy and thicker, while teasing a foot or two into the sheltered spots, just to offer a choice.
Have a great week, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing!
