At 6.20 a.m:
Constantine (1*): 3 feet.
A brighter and lighter kind of day is unfolding about us this morning, the north westerly wind spilling a chillier temperature our way.
And not doing much for the surf either!
Three feet of broken and chopped waves are crumbling into the bay, that cooling wind casually tossing and flipping them aside. The tide might improve things a little but they best that we can hope for today is a couple to three feet of choppy and sloppy surf to ride.
At least the sun looks as though it is starting to push through though!
Good to see SJ back on form after a little holiday.
SJ’s Surf Forecast for the South West can be found in the comments section below.
Harlyn (1*): 1 foot.
A foot or so of choppy and weak looking surf is flopping onto the beach this morning, uninspiring and uninviting too.
But the sun is shining and the tide is on its way in, so those little waves might just improve, if only a little. And you know that I’m always saying that Harlyn can be real fun in an onshore wind, throwing in loads of min ramps to launch those funky air drops off.
Well, that’s about as good as it’s going to get on this stretch of coast today!
Today’s Tide Times:
Low Tide: 17:57 (2.5m) High Tide: 11:38 (5.9m)
Surf Forecast for Wednesday 13th July 2016
It looks like a bit of a ‘deja vu’ kind of day today again, again.
Three feet of sloppy and choppy surf is expected at our favoured surf breaks, a foot of sloppy and choppy stuff at our normal sheltered spots and probably too small to drive to that other coast too.
So, we do have stock of short and wide, stubby flying surfboards, ideal for these conditions and cheap too (well, from £299.99 which is probably as cheap a price for a new surfboard as you are ever likely to see following ‘Brexit’!)!
Grab one before they’re gone!
Surf Conditions for the Start of the Week
The breezy and fairly lacklustre start to this week should quickly be forgotten as the weather kicks in through the back half of the week.
A wind pushed and lumpy five to six foot swell should start the week, pushed along by a fresh westerly wind. As the wind eases in strength so too will the swell, only gradually but noticeably, leaving only a couple to three feet of north westerly wind blown chop to surf by Tuesday, on action repeat for Wednesday.
And then the sun should shine for the rest of the week, even if the surf drops away even more.
So, a breezy and mixed up mid July week of surf awaits, not exactly full of promise but interesting enough to keep us all engaged!
Have a great week, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing!

The scale for measuring conditions:
0-1ft – Unridable/Flat
1-2ft – Kneehigh
3ft – Waisthigh
4-5ft – Chest/Shoulderhigh
6ft – Headhigh
6-8ft = 1-1.5x Overhead
8-10ft = 1.5x Overhead
10-12ft = 2x Overhead
Please Note!
Wave height predictions are based on the larger breaks on both coasts such as Fistral and Croyde for the North, and Praa Sands and Bantham for the South.
Wave height is measured from the front of the wave, and 6ft would usually mean a ‘head-high’ wave.
Try and use some ‘local’ knowledge about what the wave sizes will be elsewhere. For example the Newquay Bay area is generally 1/3 to 3/4 the size of Fistral, increasing the further up the bay you go from Towan to Lusty Glaze, and that it will be clean on a W wind at ‘harbour left’ at Towan at mid-tide’ for example.
Tide times are based on Newquay.
Stay Stoked!

Thanks Des. The joys of no wetsuit in warm waters and good food 🙂 Back to good old Cornwall now though – here’s to those Autumn/hurricane swells which should start heading our way over the next month or so…
